TRANSFORMATION

SHADOWS, JANUARY 2021
'Shadows' is a series of sequential photographs throughout the day, from morning to night. Using the different shapes and strengths of the shadows, I decided to make a monochrome series. This highlights the features of the shadows and adds an eeriness to them. In some photographs the contrast between highlights and shadows are strong, this creates chiaroscuro. The shadows are created by a plant, placed on my windowsill, and natural sunlight.
SHOES, JANUARY 2021
'Shoes' is a sequential photo series documenting one of my daily walks around my neighbourhood during lockdown. It shows the changes of surface throughout my walk. I kept these photos in colour to keep give them a sense of realism. However, some photos have been made negative or had some colour taken out of the photo. This highlights areas of the phot that are key or interesting. I thought about composition a lot during this shoot and how I can make the photos visually aesthetic. To do this I used a lot of lines and placed myself angular or parallel to them to make the photos appealing.

GIFS
I created these animated GIFS using stop motion techniques and PhotoScape X. These display transformation in 3 different ways. I used my sequential photographs to create these animations. I believe it makes them become more alive and whole. These are very effective and makes the viewer understand the transformation that is taking place. These showcase the transformations of shadows, light and journeys. I believe these can also be interpreted by the viewer however they please. However, for me they're all slightly linked - emptions and coping, especially throughout lockdown. I hope these come to light in my final short film as they are explored deeper through a non-linear sequence.
FINAL FILM
For my final film I made a nonlinear sequence using video and stop motion. I wanted to reflect what I had learnt during this project. I wanted to portray a surreal video that had an unnerving and disconcerting atmosphere for the viewer. I made the video black and white to reflect the style of Man Ray and to add to the gloomy emotions. These feelings are a projection of how I have been feeling during lockdown. A transformation takes place in each singular clip, usually through movement and lighting. The piece touches on emotions within yourself, change and lockdown. I wanted to use objects and people to capture these themes.
